Tell us who you are and how you got to where you are now.

I grew up all over the place and usually can’t answer the question “Where are you from?” in under 5 words. I started undergrad as an engineering major & proceeded to switch my major 4 times until I ended up double majoring in Marketing and Global Studies. I just moved to Nashville from Auburn, AL (where I did my undergrad) to start grad school at Vanderbilt in the fall. I love people, bold communication, and sports – so I think that’s how I ended up at Slate! Also, I think it’s only right to let y’all know that I was crowned Little Miss West Virginia 2006.

What have you learned in your time as an intern that you would tell someone interning for the first time?

I have had the privilege to intern with some incredible companies. The one piece of advice I would say about being an intern is to be a sponge. Every day of an internship there is always something to learn whether it is a technical skill or an opportunity for personal growth. Take the time to reflect on what you learn so that you can speak to that in the future and use that knowledge to better prepare you for your next job. Along with that, don’t be afraid to fail because interning is the perfect opportunity to learn from your mistakes. When (not if) you do fail – fail forward & learn how to do better next time.

What is a project in your career that you’re proudest of? Why?

While I was interning with Under Armour last summer, I was able to create a system for my team that would make sending products to athletes and influencers much more efficient & thought out. I think I’m proudest of this project because I left something that would stick with my team in the future, not just work that I did while I was there.

What are you reading, listening to, and/or watching right now?

I love true crime podcasts so Crime Junkies is always on my list! I am also listening to a podcast called “Son of a Hitman” – which is pretty self-explanatory & the Harry Potter at Home series on Spotify.
